Week of Dec. 3rd

What are we learning about?


Reading- We are using reading strategies to help us decode words. One strategy to remind your child of is: “self correct.” Students need to think about if a word sounds right. Think …is that the way we say it? We also started a new author study on Jan Brett.



Phonics/ Grammar- Please review the phonics chart. We are learning about commas in a series this week. During phonics time we have also been practing penmanship.

Math–Chapter 5- Addition and Subtraction relationships. Ask your child: How can you use related facts to find a missing number? How can you use addition to check subtraction? How do you know if addition and subtraction facts are related?

Social Studies/Science- We are starting our unit : Holidays Around the World. We are learning about Israel and Germany this week.


Writing- Students will be reviewing all text types. This week it is Narrative.




Please save the Kindness Calendar and talk about the act of Kindness before the day. On the 13th the coins collected will go to buy new socks for people in need.kindness



Donations- First grade teachers are in need of white card stock, and large glue sticks


We are in need of items for our Gingerbread house STEM activity.  Check with you child’s teacher to see what items may still be needed.

-Small paper plates/napkins

-Candy to decorate the houses with –chocolate chips, marshmallows, red hot’s, gumdrops, skittles and sprinkles
